Last week Year 1 had a very exciting visit to the Oriental Museum in Durham. We learned all about the Chinese Zodiac and Chinese New Year. We listened to traditional stories about China and took part in a trail of the museum. We even made up our very own Dragon Dance!! We had a super time!!
Year 1's Science topic this term is all about Animals. Today we looked at the different types of animals and learned lots of different facts about them. We created posters about: Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish, Mammals and Birds. Class 10 love bringing things from home for our weekly 'Show and Tell!' This week 12 children brought some lovely things in and gave great descriptions to the rest of the class. Well done!!! Today in Science we carried out an investigation linked to the Five Senses! We tasted different flavours of jelly, smelled strawberry and marzipan and even looked at optical illusions. We also had a game of Chinese Whispers and used our hands to guess what was in the feely bag! What a fantastic afternoon we have had!! Today Year 1 had a huge surprise!! Santa came to visit the children in the classroom and even brought them special presents. We were extremely excited!!!! On the 10th December the whole school took part in Christmas Jumper Day. We each donated £1 to help raise money for our chosen charity for the year,FACT. Year 1 loved coming to school in their Christmas jumpers and loved seeing all the different designs!
Today KS1 performed the nativity 'Christmas with the Aliens!' Year 1 sang beautifully and danced really well. It was a fantastic show, well done!! This week Year 1 have been looking at finding 10 more and 10 less than a number. We practiced using number squares and looked at numbers which have tens and units in them. Then we completed a range of activities to help us apply our new skills. We really enjoyed learning to find 10 more and 10 less!! Today Class 10 visited our lovely school library. We worked in pairs to choose a book which we wanted to read having simply looked at the front cover. We then worked together to read the book and explain why we liked it. We really enjoyed sharing our reading with a friend! As part of Cultural Week Year 1 have been looking at France. We have been looking at some of France's key features and landmarks. We have also located France on a map. Today we created France out of playdoh! We used Google maps to look at the shape of France, and some of its physical and human features. This was a really fun way of creating maps! |
