This week in year 1 we have been reading the book Egyptian Adventure. We have looked a range of drama activities to help us retell the story and find out more about the characters. We used the outdoor area to create a retell through drama, each taking on the role of a different character and using our tone of voice to show expression. Our performances were fantastic!
Today the whole school took part in a Sponsored Fun Run! It was arranged by some children from Year 6 who were wanting to raise money for charity. We all took part in a quick fun run and thoroughly enjoyed it. So far we have raised over £150 for charity! Well done everyone!
This week we have been looking at non-fiction books and today we went to the library. We worked in pairs too explore non-fiction books. We discussed what the key features were and if we used these features in our travel leaflets we made yesterday. In the library we looked at where non-fiction books can be found and with a partner we discussed what we liked about the front cover, what it could be about and if we would recommend this book to a friend. Finally we read a book in our pairs!!
This week in numeracy we have been learning how to half numbers. We talked about how we need to share numbers into two groups to find half. We have used cubes and other pieces of equipment to help us. We are great at halving numbers and had a great time doing it!
In our topic lesson we continued to look at China. We started looking at the Great Wall of China and talked about its key features and design. In groups we used pictures to help us build our own Great Wall of China we used cardboard, wooden blocks, stickle bricks and multi link cubes. During the lesson we stopped to talk about our ideas and explain why our designs looked the way they did. We explained how we would like to improve them if we made them again! We had a lot of fun!
In numeracy we have started looking at number families. Today we explored addition number families and we found the matching addition pair. We really enjoyed doing this!As part of our DT topic where in the world we have started to look at China. We looked at Chinese writing and how they have no alphabet. We then wrote or names in Chinese and our school Burnopfield. We had a lot of fun using the Chinese symbols!
As part of our door project we had a visit from a cowboy. We wrote a story about an adventure we might have with Woody! Look at our amazing display!
In Year 1 we have a Maths Mission area where we come and test our problem solving skills with word problems.
